Kathleen "Kakie" Shaughness Carter beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016 at her residence. She was born October 24, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Thomas and Susanne (Weber) Shaughness. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in elementary education and was a member of Pi Beta Phi with whom she made lifelong friends. After starting as an elementary school teacher in Denver, Colorado and Houston, Texas she met the love of her life James "Jim" Carter whom she married in Dallas, Texas on October 6, 1967. After locating in San Angelo, Texas, she continued as a teacher until the birth of her sons. She was active in the community through her service with the Junior League of San Angelo, Meals for the Elderly, United Way of Concho Valley and Santa Rita Elementary PTA. She was an avid reader and enjoyed time with her many friends and family especially her grandkids. She cherished her time and experiences with her friends in the Breakfast Club, West Texas Readers, and playing Mahjong. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and sister Patricia who died as an infant. Kathleen is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jim Carter of San Angelo, sons, James (Kristin) Carter of Dallas, Texas, Stephen (Missy) Carter of Round Mountain, Texas, sister, Francis (Roger) La Pierre of Austin Texas, sister, Ann (Bill) Collings of Austin, Texas, brother, Tom (Jane) Shaughness of Austin, Texas, and grandsons, Benjamin, Cash and Sam. Family visitation will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1:00pm, January 21, 2016, at Fairmount Cemetery with Tommy King, Minister of Johnson Street Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. Suggested memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Meals for the Elderly, American Heart Association, or charity of your choice.
