Katie Lou Hutchinson On August 13, 2017, Katie Lou Gothard Hutchinson, 102, passed away at the Senior Care of Midland, Texas. She was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana on February 28, 1915 to Eugene Glenn Gothard & Tela Ola Nesbit Gothard. Katie was the second oldest of four children. At an early age, her family relocated to O'Brien, Texas where she graduated from high school. After graduating, Katie completed cosmetology training, but shortly after met her future husband, Ennis "Doc" Lyles Hutchinson. They were married May 31, 1935 in Jonesboro, Louisiana and lived there until 1944, moving then to Monticello, Arkansas where they opened Hutchinson Feed, Seed & Hardware Store. Through the years they also had a motel in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, a restaurant at the Shreveport, Louisiana airport, and a Dairy King in Hodge, Louisiana. They become permeant residents of San Angelo in 1959. Together, they traveled extensively through the US, and later on she traveled throughout more of the US, Canada & Europe with family and friends. After losing Doc on April 15, 1973, she went to work and thoroughly enjoyed her days as a floral designer at M System. Creating beautiful arrangements and decorating for the holidays was always a passion of hers. Many in San Angelo came to know her by her elaborate Christmas decorations, even up to the age of 101. She enjoyed sharing her Christmas decorations with friends and family each year. Katie lived at Rio Concho Manor for 14 years, until just recently, and she enjoyed each year of playing cards, bingo, going on outings, visiting with friends and decorating her apartment. Katie is survived by her two children, Charlotte Ann Hayes (Kyle) of San Angelo and Ennis Gothard Hutchinson (Arlene) of Heber City, Utah and by grandchildren Debra Phillips (Mark), Kristi Bowling (Jeff), Suzann Haechten (Allen) and Clayton Hutchinson (Levi); four nephews, Jerry Neal Grinstead, Sr., Paul Dean Gothard, Gary Gothard and Glenn Gothard, along with 10 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dwight Gothard and TH Gothard; sister, Polly Foster; son-in-law, Kyle Hayes; two grandsons, Steve Hayes and Gary Hayes and by 1 great-granddaughter, Lauren Jaymes Haechten and twin great-great-granddaughters, Emily and Sarah Loehman. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 19, 10:00 am, with a viewing from 9:00-10:00 am, at Robert Massie Funeral Home in San Angelo, with grave side following at Fairmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity in Katie's memory.
