Kaye Annette Arel, 74, of San Angelo passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
Public Viewing will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Robert Massie funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 27, 2023 at Fairmount Cemetery with Pastor Gary Booth, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mrs. Arel was born on June 4, 1948 in San Angelo and raised by her parents, Verra and J. D. Saunders. Kaye attended Trinity Lutheran, Lee Junior High School, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1965. She studied Theater Arts at Angelo State University. Kaye loved theater and was very involved with the program at the University as well as productions at Angelo Civic Theater. Kaye met her first husband and the father of their two children, James McDougall in College.
Kaye started her career as an english teacher at San Angelo Lakeview High School and taught at John Glenn Middle School while she was raising her children. She went back to Angelo State University and received her Masters while continuing to work in the theater industry. In 1995, she met her loving husband Paul Arel, they have since shared their lives and families together. Kaye retired from teaching in 2016 from Grape Creek High School.
She had a love for books, music, and had many collectibles. Kaye enjoyed doing things with her family and especially loved her Saturday lunches with her sister and nephew.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Kaye is survived by her husband, Paul; two sons, David McDougall and wife Dana and Dylan McDougall and wife Tangie all of Austin; three bonus children, Catherine Leal and husband Joe and Christine Langwell all of California, and Eric Arel and wife Starlene from Richland Hills; two grandsons, Guthrie McDougall and Strummer McDougal; bonus grandchildren, Joseph, Rachel, Brooke, Grace, Lauren, Dillon, Evangeline, Jonathon; her sister, Dee Ensor and husband Tom of San Angelo; her nephew, John Saunders of San Angelo, who she shared a special bond; and her baby Shih tzu, Poppy.
