Kenneth Morton Slate, 89, of San Angelo passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at House of Hope. Viewing will start at 1:00 pm Monday, July 2, 2012 with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Jerold McBride and Dr. Mark Bumpus officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class and the Optimist Club. Kenneth was born in Bagwell, Texas on January 24, 1923 to Bert Douglas and Lois Slate. He graduated from Jacksboro High School in 1942, San Angelo Junior College in 1948, and Texas Wesleyan College in 1950. He served in WW2 with the United States Army Air Corp enlisting on December 11, 1942. He served with the 433rd Troop Carrier Group, 70th Troop Carrier Squadron and was discharged on November 28, 1945. He worked for Gandy's Dairies for 43 years as checker, personnel supervisor, safety director, fleet manager, and worked with retirement employees. He was active in the church working with children and adults for over 25 years. He was a deacon and a church trustee of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Bert and Lois Slate; brother, Garth Slate and his wife Faye; brother-in-law, Bobby Crow and his sister-in-law, Sharon Slate. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 63 years Suzanne "Sue" Davis Slate; sons, Douglas Franklin; Stanley Morton Slate and his wife Jeanie both of San Angelo; granddaughters, Hannah Slate and Christene Paulin of San Angelo; sisters, Betty Little of Jacksboro; Anita Crow; and a brother, Jack Slate both of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.
