Laverne Griffin

Laverne Griffin, 78, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, September 10,2011. Laverne was born November 22, 1932 in Chilton Texas to Roy Lee and Jewel Jones. The youngest of four children, she grew up in Brady and moved to San Angelo in 1952. Soon after she met the love of her life, Dub Griffin. They were married in February 1953. She was a member of the 9th and Main Church of Christ. Laverne worked in the banking industry in San Angelo for many years. She felt blessed to have met many co-workers and customers that she considered friends. She was a proud mother and grandmother and never missed an opportunity for hug and to tell them how much she loved them. She will be joining her parents, sisters, Mary Lou Wright, Dorothy Tolbert and her beloved husband Dub. Survivors are daughters Brenda Westbrook and Barbara Brown. Grandchildren Ashley and Brandon Bates, Jared Westbrook, Sara Brown, Megan Brown and Ross Brown. One great grandson, Nathan Bates, A brother and sister-in-law, Herschel and June Jones and many nieces and nephews. Her going home service will be graveside at Belvedere Cemetery on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Josh Romo of the 9th and Main Church of Christ will be presiding. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. A special thank you to Margaret Barringer for her care and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Meals For the Elderly. She lives beyond our reach but forever in our hearts.
