Lois Loyd went to her final peace on July 11, 2008. She was born in Pine Island, Louisiana on May 3, 1919 to Will and Bula Whitfield. She met and married David H. Loyd while he was working in the oil fields around Rodessa, La. They married on June 24, 1938. They were living in Texas City, Texas at the time the French Ship, the S.S. Grandcamp, exploded in the harbor, devastating much of the town. This tragedy proved to be the impetus for the family to move to San Angelo. She spent the next 59 years working, raising a family and enjoying the town that she grew to love. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church for more than 35 years and more recently was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church. Lois was a people person, and her working life revolved around relationships with both adults and children. She worked for the Boy Scouts of America, and later for the San Angelo Public Schools as a principal's secretary and a special education assistant in several schools. Lois was most known as the owner of her dress shop, Lois's Smart Shop. There are still people in San Angelo who remember her discerning eye for the perfect fit for them. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to sew for herself, her family and friends and for her customers. She was a proud member of the American Business Women of America. Lois loved her family and considered her children to be her greatest contribution in life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, David H. Loyd Sr. She is survived by her children David H. Loyd Jr. and his wife Judy of San Angelo, and Linda Whatley and her husband Ronnie of Austin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Helm of Fort Worth, John Loyd of Anna, Amy Rike, Brooke Carter, Ronnie Whatley Jr., Deborah Harkins, Keith Whatley, all of the Austin area, Danielle Dahlberg of Flower Mound and 14 great grandchildren. The family is especially grateful for the loving and considerate care Lois received from the administration, doctors, nurses and the entire staff of Sagecrest Alzheimer's Center and Baptist Memorial Hospice. We feel so blessed to know she was always cared for with such constant and loving attention. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday July 14, 2008 in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with burial to follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Grades with Reverend Beverly Burk officiating. Pall bearers will be Dr. Ray Dawson, Dr. Jim Holland, Mr. Carl Carter, Mr. Tommy Helm, Mr. George Nesrsta, and Mr. Ronnie Whatley. The family request that donations be made to Sagecrest, Baptist Memorial, West Texas Rehab, St. Luke United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
