Louella was born May 14, 1927 in San Angelo, Texas to Elmer W. Cox and Nellie Keeton Cox. She was the eighth child of 10. Her grandparents were from Washington County Texas and shortly after her dad was born, the family moved to San Angelo.
At age 12, Louella was baptized in the First Christian Church. She graduated high school at 17 years old, skipping the fifth grade. She went to Springfield, Missouri to learn to be a telegraph operator. Lou moved to Crystal City, Texas to work for Western Union. She married Andrew J. Majek on April 17, 1945 and moved to Carrizo Springs, Texas. Traveling to the Majek side of the family every year to Westtown, New York became a tradition. Robert was born in Middletown, New York and Alfred and Linda were born in Carrizo Springs. Lou worked at family businesses in New York and Texas all her life. Growing up during the great depression in a family of 12 was very difficult. It instilled in Lou and her siblings a good work ethic and love for family. Family meant everything to Lou and through hard work and personal sacrifices, her three children were well provided for and did not lack for anything.
Daily Bible reading sustained her. She knew many verses by heart. She enjoyed cross-stitch and sewing. Many of her projects were framed or made into a quilt. Throughout the years, Lou's smile received many compliments. She also loved to sing.
Traveling was an enjoyment in her life. She went to all 50 states, a lot of them several times over. She toured 48 countries on six continents. She always took her Bible
while traveling. The words of God comforted her when Linda got sick and needed medical attention in Agra, India. The first overseas trip was to the Holy Lands in 1978 for Lou had always wanted to go there. Her children share many happy and funny memories of traveling with their mom.
Louella is survived by two son, Robert Majek and wife Julie and Alfred Majek and wife Annette; a daughter, Linda Hasten and husband Tim; five Grandchildren, Michael Majek and wife Lauren, Andrew Majek, Aaron Majek, Jessica Hixon and husband Michael, and Jacob Hasten; four great grandchildren, Hunter and Brooks Hixon, and twins, Lily and Ashley Majek; numerous nephews and nieces, also survive her, including John Hamilton, Sally Imhoff, and Marsha Smith.
