Manuel F. Gomez, 73, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, at his home in Mertzon.
Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM with the Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Deacon Joe Ramos. Mass will be at 10:00 AM Friday, November 18, 2022, at St. Peter's Mission in Mertzon with Father Anthony Franco, officiating. Burial will follow at Mertzon Cemetery under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Military Funeral Rites will be afforded by US Army at Ft. Hood.
Mr. Gomez was born May 22, 1949 in Big Lake. Manuel attended schools in Big Lake, Mertzon, and he was a 1968 graduate of Ector High School in Odessa. Manuel was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam Conflict, receiving a Purple Heart while in Vietnam. Manuel married Susie Ortega in August of 1978 in Odessa. Manuel was a resident of Mertzon for 17 years. He was a postal carrier for the US Postal Service for 16 years in Odessa retiring in 2001. Manuel was a member of St. Peter's Mission. He loved playing music on his Saxophone and writing songs. Manuel was the town handyman, electrician by trade. He made gadgets for everything.
Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Michelle Gomez of Copperas Cove; his Son, Manuel Ortega Gomez, Jr. of Mertzon; two grandsons, Christian Manuel Bernard of Midland, and Nicholas Raine Candia of Copperas Cove; and a great grandson, Yadiel Elijah Fiallo of Copperas Cove. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Braulio and Rosario Gomez; and eight siblings, Reimundo Flores Gomez, Abel Flores Gomez, Elva Flores Gomez, Oscar Flores Gomez, Juan "Pelon" Flores Gomez, Olga Flores Gomez, Mario Flores Gomez, and Baby Rosario Flores Gomez.
