MARGARET E. SMITH

Margaret E. Smith, 76, of Mertzon, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, October 2, 2007. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the St. Paul Presbyterian Church with Pastor Craig Myers and Pastor Glenda Harbert officiating. Burial will follow at the Mertzon Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Margaret was born September 5, 1931, in San Angelo, Texas to Herbert and Annie Haas. She met her childhood sweetheart Wayne Smith, when she was thirteen. They were later married and remained so for 60 years. "Mommo and Granddaddy" raised a loving family that was a source of immense pride to her. She was Tax Assessor and Collector and Deputy Sheriff in Irion County for eleven years. Margaret was a bright and loving member of her community and church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Father Herbert Haas, Step-Father, Mervin Roberts, Mother Annie Roberts and daughter Margaret Ann Johnston. Margaret is survived by her husband Wayne Smith of Mertzon, Texas; daughter Karen Flint and life partner Cindy Alves of San Angelo, Texas; son Steve Smith and wife, Kim of Mertzon, Texas; grandchildren Todd Johnston and wife, Dena of San Angelo; Kristi Flint of St. Louis, Missouri; Aaron Flint and wife, Amy of San Angelo, Texas; Dalton Smith of Mertzon, Texas; Paige Smith of Mertzon, Texas; great-grandchildren Courtney, Jadyn, Josiah, Jenesis and Jared and son-in-law Kenny Johnston of San Angelo. Pallbearers will be Randy Flint, Joe David West, Bart Teter, Roger Smith, Daymon Smith and Gary Smith.
