MARILYN DAVENPORT SHELTON

Marilyn Davenport Shelton ended her life on this earth and was welcomed into the arms of her savior Jesus Christ at 12:10 am on Thursday February 10, 2011 at San Angelo Community Medical Center. Family visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday February 11, 2011 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Following a private family burial; Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday February 12, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nathaniel "Hank"� Hankins, officiating. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Marilyn was born October 2, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas, the second daughter of Elizabeth and Walter Davenport. She graduated from Jefferson High School and attended San Antonio Business College. Marilyn met the love of her life, George Edward Shelton during youth fellowship at Laurel Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. Following a courtship they were married there on April 3, 1948. George and Marilyn moved to Eagle Pass, Texas where he worked as a pharmacist and where they lived for six years. In 1955 the couple with their two sons moved to San Angelo, Texas and later welcomed a daughter. Marilyn was a devoted housewife and homemaker, mother and grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was blessed with three children, Steven, Stuart, and Kathy, eight grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She participated in the operation of the family owned retail drug store, Shelton Drug; was a former member of the 48 Study Club and the Pharmacy Wives Auxiliary. She has served as a volunteer for Meals for the Elderly and the Shannon Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Cheers Class at First United Methodist Church. Marilyn enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and most of all spending time with her family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Davenport and Elizabeth Cargill Davenport; her husband, George Shelton, and her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy Dickerson and H.W. "Dick" Dickerson. Survivors include sons, Steve Shelton and wife Wanda of League City, Tx and Monroe, La., Stuart Shelton and wife Rhonda of Plano, Texas, and daughter Kathy Vinson and husband Eugene of Big Lake, Tx. Grandchildren Georgia Shelton Mathews and husband Sean of Spring, Tx. Steven Shelton Jr. of Chicago, Il. Kevin Shelton and Dorothy Shelton of League City, Tx. Barrett Shelton of Dallas, Brooke Shelton Williams and husband Jayson of Fort Worth, Tx., Matt Vinson and wife Kristin of LaVernia, Tx, and Emily Vinson of San Angelo, Tx, and great-grandaughers Kamryn, Ava, and Savanah
