Marjorie Major Broome, 80, of San Angelo passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in Greeley, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd 3355 W. Beauregard Ave., with Rev. Jonathan Hartzer, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Margie was born in San Angelo to Bert and Mickey Major on June 23, 1927. She and Harold "Brookie" Broome married on April 8, 1950. Margie was a graduate of San Angelo High School and the University of Texas. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years but did teach 3rd grade at Glenmore Elementary school when her children were older. She was a passionate and tireless advocate for the mentally retarded and worked in the San Angelo area for improved education and sheltered workshops. Additionally, she served on the Board of Directors for the State School in Carlsbad. She was also an active member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church where she served on various committees. Margie was also an enthusiastic bridge player, playing with several groups here in San Angelo. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She was truly a steel magnolia. Margie is preceded in death by her husband, Brookie Broome, and her parents, Bert and Mickey Major. She is survived by her children Karen Turner, her husband Mike of Greeley, CO; Jackie Beeler and her husband Jesse of Brandon, MS; Will Broome and his wife Amy of Hondo, TX; and Hal Broome of Brandon, MS. Additionally, she is survived by her brother Pervis C. Major and his wife Peggy and her brother-in-law Jack Broome and his wife Catherine. Her grandchildren include John Forrest of Bryan, Angela Loden of Houston, Christopher Forrest of Temple, and Louis Broome of Hondo. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and son-in-laws.
