Mary was born November 25, 1945, in Abilene to Marvin H. and Pauline Clark. As a pastor's daughter, she moved throughout West Texas with her family. From the very beginning, she was a little songbird who loved singing in school and church. Most recently, she sang with her ladies' ensemble group, Grace Notes, as long as her health allowed. After attending Lake View High School, she graduated from Mertzon High School in 1964 and then attended Baptist Bible College. She married Billy Sanders in 1965. Together they had three children, Debbie, Jeric, and Kristi who remember a home and car rides filled with singing and gospel music, especially Mary's favorites, the Gaithers.
In 1984, she married the love of her life, Joe Hartman, who put her on a pedestal and treated her like a queen. They were married until his death in 2004. Mary, known as "Mimi," was adored by her grandchildren with whom she loved making Christmas cookies and playing Jokers and Skip-Bo. In her quiet time, she enjoyed reading books, counted cross stitching, crocheting, and puzzles.
As a member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church, she was well loved by Shirley Morton's Sunday school class whose members volunteered to transport her to and from medical appointments throughout this past year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hartman; her parents, Marvin H. and Pauline Clark; a sister, Martha Jean (Clark) Simpson; her mother-in-law, Dorthy Hunt; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Burns.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Sanders Clark of Houston and grandson, Cameron; Jeric Sanders and wife, Julie of Mullin and grandson, Dylan; Kristi Sanders Smith and husband, Hunter of Wall and grandchildren, Ginger, Sterling, Brooklyn, and Slade. She is also survived by her sister, Sharon Watson; and her brother, Marvin Clark Jr.
Mary's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of those who gave so much love and support before and during this time.
Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Allen Gossett, Wayne Doyle, Charlie Morton, Tom Houston, and Cleve Pool.
