MARY MARGIE SIMMS

Margie Simms passed peacefully early Sunday morning at a San Angelo hospital. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 25, 2005 at Fairmount Cemetery with Rev. Ron Sutto of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Margie was born June 22, 1925 in Pineville, LA and resided in Shreveport, LA. Margie was the only child of father Lucein Philogene Ferry and mother Margie Ferry. Margie finished high school in San Angelo while residing with her mother and mother's relatives, the Metcalfe's. She married James Jefferson Simms in Austin, TX and was then stationed in Riverside CA. They moved to Austin, TX where she graduated from the University of Texas. Margie taught Homemaking in Elgin, TX for a few years and continued her career as a homemaker. Over the years Margie and James resided in Sinton, Post, Dallas and settled in San Angelo to care for her mother until her mother's death. Margie was involved with many activities over the years such as her children's schools, test baking for Light Crust in Dallas entering cooking contests and winning many awards, was a member of Victory Study Club and First Presbyterian Church and served as a Docent at Fort Concho. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and family history regarding Spence Metcalfe Cemetery, also known as Ben Ficklin Cemetery, and Glenmore Hall Farm home, which she recently restored. Once retired, she enjoyed traveling with her loving husband of 58 years until his death. Margie is survived by her four children and their spouses; son James and wife Rae of Lexington, KY; son Charles and wife Linda of Corpus Christi; Robert and wife Janna of San Angelo and daughter Margie and husband Randy Kiser of Paint Rock . Margie "Mimi" loved her grandchildren; Ryan, Kevin, Carly, Stormi, James, Chris, Jennifer, Ted and Ted's wife Trellie and Mimi's seven great-grandchildren. Special thanks to her caretakers Charline and Shala who cared for her so kindly and, special neighbor Timmy who visited her often over the years. Mom was truly generous, always willing to help others, always had her quick wit and happy attitude and never complained about anything. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo or her favorite organization, West Texas Rehabilitation, who helped her for many years.
