Mary Alice Spencer, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the age of 95. Mary Alice was born on May 7, 1916 to Arthur H. and Minnie Ola Durden in Priddy, Texas. She was one of seven children. The family later moved to Eola, Texas where they spent several years farming cotton. She married her first love, Carl Garland Brinegar, on October 31, 1936. They had 32 wonderful years raising a family here in San Angelo until Garland's death in 1968. She and Garland enjoyed spending time fishing, traveling, and entertaining friends and family together. During this time, Mary Alice also worked as a beautician in various San Angelo salons including Ricci's and Hemphill Wells. Mary Alice married Henry W. Spencer on June 11, 1971. She retired as a stylist and devoted herself to working with Henry as a partner in Spencer's Bookkeeping Service. After retiring, they moved to Lake Buchanan where they spent their time fishing, entertaining grandchildren and traveling to Las Vegas and the West coast. Following Henry's death in 1980, Mary Alice returned to and remained in San Angelo. Mary Alice was a special person as she loved to laugh. She was known for her sense of humor and always seized an opportunity to incorporate fun into any situation. She carried her joy and laughter up to her final days. Mary Alice is survived by her children Carl Gordon Brinegar and his wife Mary, and Mary Jean Davis and her husband, Jack. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Ross Davis and his wife Dolores of San Angelo, Joy Fulton and her husband Andrew of Brighton, Colorado, Brent Brinegar and his wife Lisa of Omaha, Nebraska and Kristin Davis and her fiancée Xavier Adame of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM at Robert Massie Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 with J.T. Tucker, Chaplain, officiating. Donations may be made to VisaCare Hospice or to a favorite charity. The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the healthcare providers that assisted Mary Alice, with a special word of thanks to Teresa and Tina. Your love and care for Mary Alice means more to our family than words can express. Thank you Lord for Your grace of giving our family 95 years with Mary Alice.
