Mary Ann Vaughan

Mary Ann Vaughan, 83, passed away on April 29, 2014 after a courageous battle with dementia . She was born on December 20, 1930 and left on the steps of the local Sweetwater Hospital and later adopted by Edith Bethany. She attended school in Sweetwater and graduated from North Texas State University. Mary Ann worked as a journalist and a photographer for Standard Times. On July 6, 1959 she married Jack Vaughan. In the next three years they had two sons; Ross and Grant. During their formative years, she spent many hours attending sporting events and coaching several teams. Later, Mary Ann took up the game of golf, playing at the San Angelo Country Club. She traveled across the state of Texas playing in various women's tournaments. She was a past SACC Club Champion. She was also an avid bridge player belonging to a number of clubs in San Angelo. Mary Ann was an avid walker and will enjoy being laid to rest at Fairmount Cemetery where she walked daily for many years. Mary Ann is survived by her loving spouse of 54 years Jack Vaughan of San Angelo; two sons; Ross Vaughan and wife, Molly of Houston, Grant Vaughan of Lubbock; grandsons; Henry Vaughan of Austin, Pete Vaughan of Houston, Ben Vaughan of Houston, Michael Vaughan of San Angelo and granddaughter; Ashley Vaughan of Austin; brother in law; Bill Vaughan of Houston. She was preceded in death by parents. Memorial services will be held 3:00pm Friday May 2, 2014 at Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd with The Reverend June Smith, officiating. Following her wishes, inurnment will be at Fairmount Cemetery and on the Vaughan Ranch in Crockett County. Memorials are suggested to the Tom Green County Library, West Texas Boys Ranch and a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at Baptist Memorial retirement center and the Baptist Memorial Hospice Dr.'s and nurses.
