MARY LEE WINTERS

Mary Lee Winters, 82, a long time resident of Sherwood, Texas, passed away on January 28, 2007 in San Angelo. Visitation will be at Robert Massie Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday February 1, 2007 at the Sherwood Cemetery with Pastor David Henry of San Angelo First Assembly of God conducting the services. Mary Lee was born in Lamesa, Texas to F. Gerald Watkins, and the former Sadie Mae Jordan on November 1, 1924. Mary Lee attended the Nazareth Academy in Victoria, Texas. She proudly toured the school with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren some 70 years later and was delighted to see the courtyard where some of the same trees were still standing just as she had remembered. She was educated in the communities of Crane, Big Lake, and San Angelo during her youth. She was a Girl Scout and was proud to see her daughter and granddaughters follow in her footsteps. She also attended Fort Worth College as an art major. Mary Lee played an active role in her mother's beauty shops, in Crane, Big Lake, and their cafe in Mertzon. Mary Lee met and married Euvaldo Lucero Cavallero in Clovis, New Mexico. They gave birth to their only child, Carole Anne when the couple lived in Tucson, Arizona. Mary Lee had a love for antiques, books, art, history, her rose gardens, and was very passionate about her genealogy. Her twin cousins Jo Ann Daberko, and Mary Jo Garner also shared a mutual interest in genealogy and frequently worked together in researching their family history. Mary Lee and her mother, Sadie, were also practical nurses and worked in Clovis, San Diego, and Sherwood to help nurse many sick people back to health for many years. She worked many jobs and blessed many people throughout her life. Mary Lee's daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was very proud of each of them and cheered the loudest at their high school and college graduations. One of Mary Lee's fondest memories was of visiting her daughter and grandchildren when they lived in Germany. She had the opportunity to tour the Rhine River, visit Luxemburg, and see the American World War II cemetery in France where her Uncle Obediah Jordan was buried. Mary frequently mentioned that he was a soldier killed far from home, but never forgotten. She taught her family the value and honor of being a United States Armed Services Veteran and how service is important to our community. Mary Lee was preceded in death by her mother Sadie Mae Jordan Watkins Montgomery, her Uncles Obediah Jordan, Tommy Lee Jordan, Delbert Meredith Jordan, Aunt Ruby Jordan Bollinger, and cousin Gloria Loraine Mioduski. Mary Lee Winters is survived by Carole Anne Cavallero Brown her only daughter and husband Mark Brown of San Angelo, Her beloved grandson Robert Molina III of San Angelo.
