Mathilde Eschberger Short passed away in Mesquite, Texas on August 5th, 2007. Family visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Fairmount Cemetery with Dr. Toby Irwin, Pastor of Belmore Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Mrs. Short was born in Louisiana on July 5, 1914 to Walter and Edna Jones. The family subsequently moved to San Angelo, Texas.. Mathilde married Dee Eschberger on December 28 of 1932. She and Dee both worked at Goodfellow AFB during World War II. After ensuring that both of her children finished college she returned to San Angelo College and received a degree in education. She was in the first graduating class after SAC became a four year college. She then taught for many years in the San Angelo Public School system. She and Dee celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1982. After Dee's death Mathilde married Alton Short, a high school class mate from SAHS. They enjoyed ten years together until Mr. Shorts' death in 1992. She then moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in order to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Short was a wonderful wife, mother and teacher and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jim Batman of Royce City and granddaughter Amanda Batman of Arlington. Also by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Jerre Eschberger of Ajijic, Mexico and granddaughter Kirstin Eschberger of Dallas. She is also survived my numerous nieces and nephews.
