Matilda F. Gomez, 88 of Ballinger went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2012 at a local care center. Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Friday January 4, 2013 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday January 5, 2013 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Father Hubert Wade, officiating. Burial will follow at Ballinger Latin American Cemetery. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. Matilda was born on March 14, 1924 in Colorado City to Martin and Refugia (Vasquez) Flores. She was raised and lived most of her life in Ballinger and moved to San Angelo in her final years where her sister took good care for her and was by her side daily, holding her hand to the end. Matilda raised two nephews as her own sons, Macario Perales and Albert N. Flores. She was a nurse's aide. Matilda married Frank Gomez in 1945 in Ballinger and they shared 45 years together until his death in 1990. Even though she never had children of her own, she loved all of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister aunt and friend. Pallbearers will Albert N. Flores, Victor Sanchez, Billy Sanchez, Gabriel Aguero, Crispin Sanchez Jr. and Anthony Arredondo. Matilda is preceded in death by parents, husband, brothers; Henry, Ramon Sr., Jimmy, Ramon Flores Jr., sisters; Florencia Carrizales, Adelina Perales. Survivors include her brother, Albert and wife, Mary Flores of Ballinger, sister, Juanita Flores Sanchez of San Angelo, two nephews, Macario Perales of San Angelo and Albert N. Flores of Ballinger and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to give special thanks to Maria Rodriguez for the kindness shown to Matilda and our family.
