Merwin Lee Stephens was called home to Glory on June 29, 2017 in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on January 9, 1954 in San Angelo to Mary Pearson and Aaron Stephens II. Merwin graduated from Central High School in San Angelo, Texas. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in August of 1972 and proudly served our country until his honorable discharge in August of 1974. Following his military service, Merwin pursued his barber's license at San Angelo Barber College, where he successfully earned his degree. He earned his infamous nickname, Swervin' Merwin as he was an avid walker. There was not one day that went by that you failed to spot him walking around town, as he put it, minding his own business. Many believe that he could possibly hold the unofficial record for most miles travelled by foot in San Angelo. When he wasn't strolling and taking in the sights around town he loved drawing pictures, often while enjoying a nice cup of coffee. Merwin was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Florine and Michelle Pearson. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, son Merwin Stephens, Jr. of Virginia and daughter, Toby Kaltenborn of Washington State, along with sisters Gloria (Alfred) Branch and Martha Pearson of San Angelo, Texas, Brothers Charles (Mae) Stephens and Aaron (Donna) Stephens of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Darrell Pearson of San Angelo, Texas and Hercules (Debra) Miller of Antioch, California, and very special cousin, Janie Wheeler of San Angelo, Texas and a host of relatives and friends around the country.
