Herminia Garcia Torres, 96, of San Angelo entered into the arms of our Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 22, 2009. She lived the last days of her life at Park Plaza Nursing Home. Minnie was born on January 1, 1913, the eldest of seven children, to Nicholas and Flora W. Garcia. She was the grandchild of Nestor and Panfila Carreon Wuertemburg one of the earliest Mexican American families to form the community of Santa Angela located on the North Concho River now known as San Angelo, Texas. Minnie, as everyone called her, lived her life full of love for everyone. Anyone that came to visit, never left without being fed. It did not matter whether it was physical or spiritual nourishment, she provided with a loving smile. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2009 at Robert Massie Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Quirino Cornejo officiating. Burial will follow at Belvedere Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Minnie's grandchildren, Robert Torres Jr., Raymond Torres, Toby Torres, Toby Torres, Tony Torres, Darlene Gonzalez, Jermain Gonzalez, Tania Gonzalez and Ann Marie Nandin. Honorary pallbearers will be Minnie's great grandsons, Saint Torres and P.F.S. Ashley Torres. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Flora Garcia; her husband, Claudio Torres; a son, Amador Torres; a grandson Crispin; and two great grandsons, Isac Nandin and Preston Cole Torre; five brother, Nick, Rudy, Joe, Santana, and Jesus Manuel Garcia. Minnie is survived by sons, Sam Leyja and wife Clara, Robert Torres Sr. and wife Juana Maria; a daughter, Clarita Gonzalez and husband Homer Armador. She will be missed especially by her only living sister, Mary Garza and husband Aberto of San Antonio. In addition, she leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Minnie touched the life of all her nieces and nephews.
