Memorial Celebration of Life services for Nelda Beth Von Gonten, 69, in San Angelo will be at 11am Saturday, Feb 25, 2017 at First United Methodist Church located at 37 E Beaurgard. Nelda went home to be with her Lord Friday, February 17, 2017 in the peace of her home in San Angelo surrounded by family. Nelda Beth (Townsend/Orman) Von Gonten born to Henry Townsend and Lillian Badgett on November 13, 1947 in San Angelo, TX. She graduated from Central High School in 1966. She was known for her infectous smile and generous love and kindness. It is through these that she touched so many lives and helped anyone as much as she could, while still being quick with a joke to help lift peoples' spirits. Nelda spent many years traveling with her work at Taylor Publishing making friends across the State of Texas. She loved to travel and got to share that love with her son and other family members to places such as Italy, Mexico, Israel and Costa Rica. She never met a stranger. Most recently she was heavily involved in her volunteer work at First United Methodist Church and her love and leadership within the Emmaus community. She believed that when God says, "No", He is only making room for a greater "YES!". She was married to the love of her life, that shared her passion for family and friends. Some of her favorite scriptures, were: "The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever. Psalm 103:8-9 and "I delight greatly in the Lord; my sould rejoices in my God". Isaiah 61:10. Those in Heaven to welcome her home are her parents, and step-father Homer Badgett, mother-in-law Louise Von Gonten, father-in-law Eddie Von Gonten and brother-in-law Roy Vallandingham. Those left to cherish her memory are Jimmie Von Gonten (husband), Jason Orman (son), Kelly Von Gonten and Rusty Butler, Kevin and Michelle(Von Gonten) Jones and Travis and Jamie(Von Gonten) Bryrum, Michael and Melanie(Townsend) Block, Jim and Linda(Townsend) White and Brenda(Townsend) Vallandingham. A loving grandmother to Courtney Stinson, Zachary Stinson, Ashley Jones, Cammie Jones, Mason Jones, Brycen Byrum and Addi Byrum. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who adored her as much as she adored them, as well as a host of spiritual and extended family that surrounded her in her faith. The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo for their care and support during her last days. As well as, the nurses and nursing assistants of 4 South at Shannon Medical Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made through www.gofundme.com under Nelda Von Gonten's name, or visit cjdfoundation.org for more research on Prion Diseases and donate there in Nelda Von Gonten's name.
