Nelta Lancaster, 98, of Midland passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, in Midland. Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 15, 2018, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Portis Ribble, retired minister West Angelo Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the Direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Mrs. Lancaster was born January 21, 1920 in Bastrop County to W. M. and Viola Copeland Riddle. She attended school in Dale, graduating from Lockhart High School. Nelta graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a BS in Home Economics. She taught at Refugio ISD where she met her husband. Nelta was married to A. T. Lancaster on December 21, 1946 in Austin. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in December of 2001. She worked at Monahans ISD teaching the 6th grade for 20 years. While in Monahans she held various offices and received many honors among them are secretary and president of Ward County TSTA, president of Monahans TSTA, secretary and president of Board of Directors of Ward County Teachers Credit Union. She was named Teacher of the Year at Tatom Elementary 1972-1973 and was published in Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1973 and American Personalities in 1976. Nelta retired in 1984 with 39 years teaching experience. Nelta was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was a very kind person and she was dedicated in serving the Lord. Survivors include her daughter, Juliann Kelton and husband Bill of Midland; a sister, Betty Sanders of Austin; two grandchildren, Thomas Kelton and wife Ann of Dallas and Katie Kelton of Midland; four great grandchildren, Andrew, Ian, Charles and Alexander; and much loved nieces and nephews, Nelta was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leland Riddle; two sisters, Alma Guckian and Vivian Harris.
