Odis Landis, 86, of San Angelo passed away Sunday, December 24, 2006 at his residence. Family visitation will be held at 1:00-2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Burial will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Odis was born January 14, 1920 in San Saba County, to Harvey Franklin and Florence Mae Landis. Odis was raised in the Hill Country. He worked in construction, helping to build Hwy 16 as well as several bridges and dams in the Kerrville area; he was a welder for Mooney Aircraft in Harper; he helped with the building of the Harper school and Community Park and was awarded a Stetson hat by the Community for his instrumental work in the building of the Harper rodeo arena. Odis served in the Army during WWII, as a military policeman in France among other duties. Odis also worked on many ranches, was an avid outdoorsman and an excellent horseman. He was well known for his skill in breaking and training horses. According to his grandson Jason, "He was the only true cowboy I've ever known." Odis was a good neighbor, a good friend, and he loved his family more than anything. Many lives have been enriched by his presence, and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Willie Mae Gold and one daughter Janice Kay Feller. Survivors are his wife, Helen Landis of San Angelo; daughter Kathy Watson and husband Bobby of Kerrville, Texas; two step-sons Jeff Havlak and wife, Teri and Doug Havlak and wife, Christina; step-daughter Connie Hearn all of San Angelo; sister Francis Haddock of San Antonio; brother Ernest Landis of Christoval; Grandchildren Cory Feller and Nicole Dukes of San Angelo; Jason Strackbein of Harper, Texas; Kina Goodrich of Fredericksburg; great-grandchildren Richard Strackbein, Ryleigh Jones, Logan Pruitt, Luke Goodrich, Lauren Feller, Cameron Feller, Jordan Feller, Tyler Dukes, Yazzmeen Dukes, Layton Goodrich; step-grandchildren James Hearn III, Nolan Hearn, Madison Havlak; one niece and four nephews; adopted daughter Phyllis McKee of Canyon Lake, Texas.
