OTTO ALFRED THIERS, JR

Otto A. "Al" Thiers, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on Tuesday, November 8, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Glen Pierce, officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Roosevelt, TX. Arrangements are made by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Otto was born May 28, 1923, in Sutton County, to Otto Fred and Sophie Thiers. He married Polly Miller on August 12, 1941 in San Antonio. They moved to San Angelo after World War II. Al served as a Staff Sergeant with Company "D" 357 Infantry as a Heavy Machine Gunnery. He received several decorations and citations during his service to our Country: Five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster with the 357th Inf. Div. 45, one Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster with the 90th Inf. Div. 45. Al was a lifetime Rancher and Farmer. He was well known in the community; working for Wendland Manufacturing Company, retiring after 42 years, and in his senior years he worked at Bowman Lumber Company. Al was a Charter Member and Deacon of the former Baptist Tabernacle Church for over 50 years. He served the Lord faithfully using his welding skills to help build area churches, and driving a bus for the Children's Bus Ministry. He was currently a member of the Baptist Temple Church. Survivors are: Two daughters:Sharon Haney of San Angelo Paulette Pierce and husband, Glen of Tyler, TX Two sons:Ronnie Thiers and wife, Lorie of San Angelo Wes Thiers and wife, Karen of Mertzon Grandchildren:Ake and wife, Karla Jaron, Jeremie, Kristie and husband, Hank, Dustin, Ryan, Victoria, J.D., Mandy, Candy, Brittany and Jon Wesley Great-granddaughters:Paige and Karee. One sister-in-law:Louise Cates of Iredell. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
