Pedro Ponce Velazquez, 95, of San Angelo, passed away quietly at his home surrounded by family members.
Public viewing will from 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Rev. Samuel Lopez, officiating. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mr. Velazquez was born June 29, 1928 in Madero Del Rio, Coahuila, Mexico to Jesus and Rosario Velazquez. Pedro married the love od his life Ramona Hernandez on October 23, 1948 in Acuña, Mexico. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2020. Pedro has been a resident of San Angelo since 1983. Pedro worked very hard to support his family, working various jobs as a rancher in agriculture, general laborer in a power plant in Nebraska, a railroad worker for Union Pacific Railroad, a fence erector for Twin Mountain Fence Co., and a meat processor for a meat packing company until his retirement in 1993. Pedro was an Assembly of God member. He enjoyed playing his guitar, listening to spanish christian music, playing with his fur baby "Ozzy", and feeding the wild birds.
Survivors include seven daughters, Rosaisela Huerta, Valentina Hernandez, Amalia Saenz, Marilu Garcia, Sonia Guerrero, Sylvia Moreno, Altagarcia Quintana; three sons, Hervey Velazquez, Pedro Jr. Velazquez, and Efrain Velazquez; 36 grandchildren; many great grandchildren, two brothers, Jesus Velazquez, and Inez Velazquez; a sister, Rosie Morin. Pedro was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Lidia Castro, San Juana Velazquez, Santa Ramona Cancino; two sons, Jose Velazquez, and Rosendo Velazquez ; four brother; four sisters; and eight grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Hospice of San Angelo for their loving care, and a special thank you to dad's nurse, Juan Venegas for his compassion, and Maggie Guerrero for her service as well.
