Peggy Jo McShan Hembree, 92, of San Angelo passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Celebration of life services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2022 at First Baptist Church of San Angelo with Pastor Greg Breedlove, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Peggy Jo McShan Hembree was born April 4, 1930 in a Humble Oil & Refining Company field camp called Station "A" Texas. As a child her family lived in many of the thriving oil field metropolises of West Texas such as McCamey, Big Lake, and finally Odessa, where she graduated from Odessa High School in 1946. In 1950 she married Richard Dale Hembree, Sr., to whom she was married for almost 63 years until his death. Their family was reared in Midland, TX for many years before they were transferred by Exxon to Anchorage, AK. Upon retirement they moved to Bronte, TX where they were recognized as Citizens of the Year in 2008 for their years of community service.

Everyone says their mother was a devoted mom, wife, grandmother, and friend, but Peggy truly was. A stay-at-home mom when her children were growing up, she was very involved in all their activities. Once her kids were all in school, she went to work at Commercial Bank & Trust in Midland, Texas. At the end of her career, she was a Vice President at First City National Bank in Houston, Texas, handling the accounts for some very well-known clients. Peggy always regretted not having a college education, but she was living proof of what dedication and dependability can do for someone.

Peggy enjoyed sewing, camping, travelling, working on her computer and supporting her husband in his every endeavor. She was the consummate volunteer. Upon her death at 92 years of age, she was still volunteering at Shannon's Women's and Children's Hospital and at the gift shop at Buckner Baptist. She had a host of friends with whom she enjoyed game nights, going to concerts and travelling.

But Peggy's most heartfelt desire was that everyone would have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. If she was asked to pray for someone, it was guaranteed that there would be prayers. She taught Sunday School for much of her life, most recently third grade girls. Peggy was a woman of great faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hembree and her parents Beauford and Annie Laurie McShan.

Peggy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Andy Cobb of Midland, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. R. Dale and Kaye Hembree, Jr. of Abilene, Texas and son and daughter-in-law Rob and Wendy Hembree of San Angelo, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren, Courtnee Hembree, Danielle Wilcox and her children, Payton, Sawyer and Quinn; and Michael Wilcox; step-grandchildren, Victoria and Antonio Herbert and her children Jasmine, Charlotte and Theodore; Alexandra Waasdorp; and Vanessa and Derek Carlile; brother, Jerry McShan of Bronte, Texas, and special friend Sue Mansfield (together they were affectionately known as "Peggy Sue") and the Hand and Foot group.
