We come together in love and remembrance as we celebrate the life of Pirla "Maw" McAda, 97, who passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025. For 97 wonderful years, she brought joy, laughter, and strength to all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Born August 1, 1927 in Wall, Texas to George and Willie (Wilkins) Poss, Maw was a spirited matriarch whose life was a testament to the love of family and the joy of community. Pirla attended San Angelo Lake View High School. Pirla met William "Bill" (Paw) McAda and married him on October 4, 1942. Paw preceded her in death on May 26, 2012. She was a devoted wife and cherished mother to her four sons. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, even as she ventured into the workforce after they entered school, where she touched many lives through her roles at Woolworth, B & W Merchandise, Ace Hardware, and M System Grocery.
Maw enjoyed traveling and camping the most, as well as visiting with friends, family, and her church family. Maw had an insatiable love for travel and adventure. As she and Paw volunteered with the Forestry Service in Gunnison, Colorado, memories were made that would last a lifetime. Even after Paw's passing, her spirit of service never waned, as she devoted herself full-time to Rust Street Ministries, fostering friendships that were just as meaningful as her family ties. Maw was a testament of her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her family. Maw was a faithful member of Harris and Irving Church of Christ, now Johnson Street Church of Christ, for over seventy-five years. She served in multiple areas of ministry to the church, attending regularly.
Although we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that Maw is reunited with her beloved Paw and her two sons, Mackie and Jim Bob, daughter-in-law Barbara Lee McAda (Brent), and her siblings. She leaves behind a loving family, including her sons Brent McAda of San Angelo and Kerry McAda and wife Diane of San Angelo, and surviving daughters-in-laws Dixie McAda (Jim Bob) and Barbara Faye McAda (Mackie). Maw was survived by eight grandchildren; Wendy Duran, Mitch McAda, Tarala Foley, Timothy McAda, Todd McAda, Shelly Bailey, Kerstyn McAda, and Rachel Holt and 14 great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren and countless friends whose lives she touched. The family would also like to acknowledge Maw's very good friend, June Heinze, who spent many hours visiting and laughing with Maw over the years. Let us celebrate her life with the same gusto and resilience that she embraced every day.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Rust Street Ministries.
