Raymond Charles Huckaby

Raymond Charles Huckaby passed into eternity on March 28, 2016 at the age of 94 and 7 months. Raymond, better known as "Huck", was born September 1, 1921 in Bosque County. He attended public school in Turnersville, TX before attending Clifton Junior College. He was a faithful member of Lifepoint Baptist Church here in San Angelo. He cut short his college career to serve in the Coast Guard during World War II. After leaving the military, Huck returned home to make a living with his brother Richard, roofing houses. It was not much longer before he entered the oilfield and moved to San Angelo. This is where he met and married Gloria Maxine Holcomb Williams. Their union lasted fifty years until Gloria's death in 2004. Huck's oilfield career took him to Sonora where he worked for G & L Tool from 1972 until retiring in 1986. Upon retiring he and Gloria moved back to San Angelo where they took advantage of the time and made many trips in their motorhome, especially enjoying blue grass festivals. Sports were a main focus in the Huckaby household. He enjoyed almost all venues, but especially the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks. At one point he held season tickets to the Cowboys, and after each game, he would drive the 4 hours to get back home for work the next day. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Alvin Huckaby; wife, Gloria; 2 brothers, Richard and Pete Huckaby; 3 sisters, Flora Holliingsworth, Thelma Elliot, Flossie Hollingsworth, and son, Raymond Craig. He is survived by 6 children: Dorothy Williams Arnsdorff, Cheryl and husband, Bob Switzer, Reggie and wife, June Williams, Debbie and husband, Jimmy Arrott, Charlotte Huckaby and Mary George, 7 grandchildren: Carla Duff, Randy Schacherl, Tammy Maha, Nancy Burkhalter, Bryce Williams, Byron Williams, Jeffrey George, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He always liked to make goals. One goal was to be at the end of his life and not have anyone mad at him or owe anybody money. He was especially proud that all his children had jobs and had never been in jail. Special thanks go to the following: Hospice of San Angelo for their kindness and care in the last few weeks, Meals for the Elderly who delivered for 2 years when his health declined, the nurses, doctors and staff of the Med-Tele Unit of San Angelo Community Medical Center, and Doctors Blanc and Granaghan for their years of care. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2016, from 5pm to 7pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 1pm at the Lifepoint Baptist Church with Jay Clatworthy, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Bye for now, DAD!
