Reverend John Henry Smith III of San Angelo went home to be with the Lord April 26, 2018 in San Angelo Texas from Community Hospital. Family visitation is 6:00- 8:00pm May 9, 2018 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Homegoing service is 1:00pm May 10, 2018 at New Jerusalem COGIC at 1515 N. Chadbourne, San Angelo Texas 76903 with eulogy by Theodore G. W. Boone, Jesus Christ Church, Ballinger, TX., and officiating Pastor Henry C. Green, St. Paul Baptist Church, San Angelo, TX. Interment will follow Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. John Henry Smith III was born in Fort Worth Texas, mother a well-known ministry of music, songs and teacher Bettie Brazil. John was raised and went to school in San Angelo Texas till his marriage to Evelyn Davis in 1971. John and Evelyn were school sweethearts and were to celebrate their 47th Anniversary this August. They moved to California in 1972 were John worked at Long Beach Navy Shipyard as a Journeyman Machinist. They bought a home and lived in California for 25 years. During those years John studied/trained as a minister at Loveland Church under Pastor Chuck Singleton, Rancho Cucamonga California from 1991 to 1996 and was ordained as a Pastor in 1996. In 1996 he was transferred to Ft Sill in Lawton Oklahoma where he was the manager of a $20 million and a $14 million military computerized vehicle wash facility and managed 68 military personnel and a Master Sergeant as an assistant to him who became a humble deacon he ordained at Bible Living Ministries Church where God placed Reverend Smith to serve as Pastor for 8 years. John was also ordained again in Lawton, OK under Bible Way Church, Pastor Lawton White where he served before God placed him as Pastor of Bible Living Ministries. John prayed to return to his home town San Angelo, Texas so that he would be near his mother and his mother in law. God made it possible in 2007 when it seemed impossible, and he and his wife were transferred to Goodfellow Air Force Base also both with pay increases. How "Great is our God". John worked as Medical Support Staff at Goodfellow Air Force Base hospital till he was promoted to Office Manager at the Health and Wellness Center (HAWC) until he retired in 2012. Then landing a part time position at Shaffer Funeral Home doing what he enjoyed, helping and blessing people. 2007 Reverend John Smith was interim pastor for Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, St. Paul Baptist Church, United Community Church of San Angelo and Maranatha COGIC, Saint Luke Baptist in Eldorado and Bethlehem Baptist Church in Big Lake. He never was concerned what denomination the church was as long as they peached the word of God from Genesis to Revelation. Reverend John and his wife joined New Light Missionary Baptist Church where he faithfully serviced as Assistant Pastor until his going home. John enjoyed serving the Lord in the same church he was baptized at 7 years old. John was a man of integrity and always put God first and did things decent and in order. He was a member at the Ministerial Alliance of San Angelo where he served as Vice President for 2 years. Later at the Ministerial Alliance becoming the President of the "Kingdom Men" building up men for the Kingdom. He was the "Spiritual Adviser" for the "Aglow International" in San Angelo for last 10 years; an international faith base ministry in 170 countries. He loved being around all his friends in San Angelo whom he grew up with. He was also happy to serve and fellowship with a lot of friends who served God and with those in the ministry whom he grew up with. John Henry Smith was an ordinary name, but John Henry Smith was not an ordinary man, he was and "Extra Ordinary" Man. He was God's man, God's Servant. Now, he is truly a Kingdom Man, in God's Heavenly Kingdom.
