Reverend Myron Kersten, faithful husband, loving father, caring friend and devoted minister, passed away on February 21, 2010, in San Angelo. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with the Rev. Mack Roller officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany, Oklahoma, Friday, February 26, 2010. Myron was born May 22, 1924 in White River, South Dakota, to Jacob and Christina Kersten, immigrants from Holland. He graduated from Percival High School, Percival, Iowa and studied at Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Oklahoma. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army as a Tec 3 Specialist. He ministered for 50 years in the Church of the Nazarene pastoring congregations in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. His favorite scripture was Psalm 91. Myron had a contagious zest for life, and his family cherishes the memories of his love. He was married to Carolyn Olson Kersten on June 14, 2008 in Longwood, Florida. Myron is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Christina Kersten, brother, Herman Jon Kersten, wife, Mercedes Kersten, wife of 55 years, Betty Kersten, sons, Dwayne Kersten and Dean Kersten. He is survived by spouse, Carolyn Kersten, sons, David Kersten & Debbie, Waco, TX, Dan Kersten & Debra, Hinesville, GA, Joel Kersten & Gwen, Richmond Hill, GA, Jonathan Kersten & Judy, Marietta, GA, Daron Kersten & Zoe, Longwood, FL, daughters, Darla Lowe, Smyrna, GA, Suzan Hassell & Vernon, Clearwater, FL and daughter-in-law, Diana Kersten, Lake Charles, LA; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard Kersten & Veoda, Basile, LA and sister, Edith Johnson & Garland, Yukon, OK. Pallbearers will be Jim Dowd, David Jackson, Burt Terrill, G.H. Lampley, David Gossett, Roger Ford, Harvey Jones and Skeeter Tucker. Memorials may be given to Hospice of San Angelo which the family thanks for their loving care and support.
