Richard Norman Brown, Jr.

Richard "Ritchie" "Slick Rick" Brown, 71, of San Angelo passed away Friday, February 18, 2022.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John S. Pope, Jr, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Belvedere Memorial Park under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. Viewing will be 1:00 PM Saturday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church

Mr. Brown was born on September 29, 1950 in Steubenville, Ohio to Richard and Marie Howard Brown. Ritchie joined the U. S. Air Force in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1977. Richard married Trudy Walker on April 6, 1974 in San Angelo.

He moved to Ohio in 1977 and went to work for Amtrak. While in Ohio Slick Rick played the trombone in the band TNT Flashers. In 1980, Richard worked in the oilfield, then in 1980 he went to work for the City of San Angelo in the street and bridge department. He retired in 2003 from the water department.

He loved to fish, camp, hunt, and was a very adventurous man. Richard was a Buffalo Soldier at Fort Concho, loved dancing with his wife, and loved to talk to anyone about anything. His family knew him as a know-it-all. Richard's grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Lemon, Laurene Smith, and Lynette Yetts.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Trudy; three daughters, Lacretia Fobb and husband Courtney of Killeen, Khadijah Norton of Houston, and Jazmine Cornelius of Round Rock; seven sons, Shawn Gilbert of San Angelo, Emmanuel Walker of Plano, Dominic Colbert of Pflugerville, and Andre Walker of Kingsland,

Karl Brown of Yuma, Arizona, Darrell Duncan of San Angelo, and Derek Carson of Pecos; a sister, Richelle Jeter of Akron, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Elijah Brown and wife Tajzyea, Lexus Roberts, Kasai Brown, Kiantae Fobb, Mary King, Jaden Salas, Mason Gilbert, Dystiny Gilbert, Shawn Gilbert, Jr., Charlie Gilbert, Raelynn Gilbert; four great-grandchildern, Taelyn, Aujiana, kyrie, and Taboris; and Fur Granddog, King.
