Sisto Perez Charles of San Angelo went to be with our Heavenly Father on July 11, 2009, at the age of 89. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Mary'™s Catholic Church with Father David Herrera officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The oldest of five children, Sisto was born April 13, 1920, in Miles, Texas, to Epolito and Ofelia Charles. Sisto served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II as a Pvt 1st Class in the F Company 23rd Infantry. In 1946, he was united in marriage to Maria Rendon in San Angelo, Texas, where they started their large family and remained during their lifetimes. For many years, he worked for Reece Albert as a truck driver, a laborer and a gardener for many individuals in the San Angelo area. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. Sisto was preceded in death by his parents, Epolito and Ofelia Charles; his brother Epolito Charles, Jr.; his sisters, Chavella Soto and Florentina Juarez; his wife, Maria Charles; and grandson Daniel Ruiz. He is survived by his eldest son, Sisto Charles, Jr. of San Angelo; son, David and wife Mary Charles of San Angelo; daughter Ernestine Ruiz of San Angelo; daughter Helen and husband Patrick Lee of Loveland, CO; daughter Olga and husband Timothy Lee of Loveland, CO; daughter Rita and husband Fernando Santillan of San Angelo; and youngest daughter Linda Charles of San Angelo. He is also survived by one sister, Jesusita Charles. Sisto was blessed with a total of 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Robert Ruiz, Jr., David Charles, Jr., Adam Santillan, Mark Charles, and great-grandsons Stephen Charles, Michael Bermea, and Lonnie Kennon. The family thanks Vista Care Hospice and Dr. Vayden F. Stanley for their help during Sisto'™s time of need, and the caring staff at Sagecrest Alzheimer'™s Care Center.
