Sonja Charisse Sampson, 49, of San Angelo, was called home to join our heavenly father on Monday, November 7, 2022 in Houston.

Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM - 8:00PM on Friday November 18, 2022 with the family receiving friends 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Sonja's Celebration of Life will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Belmore Baptist Church. Burial will be at 3:00 PM at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Sonja was born in San Angelo to Freeman and Blanche Sampson on August 23, 1973. She went to Belaire Elementary, Edison Jr. High, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1991. Her junior year she became a member of the prestigious Starlettes Girls Society Club. During Sonja's senior year she was a Debutante and received the Le Coterie Academic Scholarship. She attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

Her first career job was at Sally's Beauty Supply where she became a store manager. She later worked for GTE (Verizon) as a Quality Assurance Manager. Sonja's most recent employment was with the SITEL Corporation.

Sonja was proud to be a descendent of the Black Seminole Tribe from Nacimiento, Coahuila, Mexico. She loved celebrating her Seminole Indian heritage in Brackettville, Texas during Juneteenth, and Seminole Days.

Sonja was a loving, caring, and generous person. She was full of life with a beautiful voice and infectious laugh. She loved humor and enjoyed watching reality television. Sonja had a passion for cooking; she would often take food to work to feed her coworkers. She also had a strong bond with her Edison Jr. High School classmates and stayed in touch throughout the years.

Sonja is preceded in death by her father Freeman Sampson and mother Blanche Sampson.

Sonja is survived by her sister, Vanessa Sampson De Veaux of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; half-brother, Joe Luis Lozano Sr. of San Angelo; nephews, Joe Lozano, Jr., and Louis Lozano both of Christoval; and her best friends, Sonya Weedon Jeffery of Justin, Priscilla Sheridan-Roberson of San Antonio, Fernando Fuentez of San Angelo, and Rhonda Brown, and Yolanda Holmes both of Houston.
