Thelma Oates Horeis, 89, of San Angelo, went to be with her Lord and Savior at her home on December 31, 2004. The family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2004 at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday January 4, 2005 at Robert Massie Funeral Home with William Rosser, officiating. Burial will follow at Wall Protestant Cemetery. Thelma was born in Bastrop County, Texas to John William and Erie Webb Oates on July 1, 1915. She married William "Bill" Horeis on November 24, 1936 in Tom Green County. He preceded her in death December 30, 1942. She worked as a cashier for "M"System and Marx Street Grocery for many years. Thelma was known to all who loved her as Granny. Granny was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports. She enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers and vegetable garden. Granny was also well known for her beautiful hand-pieced quilts. Her favorite hobby over the last few years was spoiling her great-grandkids. Thelma was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Judy Horeis Dodson, one brother John Oates, and three sisters, Edith Smith, Millie Helmers and Noble Oates. Thelma is survived by one son Bill "Sonny" Horeis and wife Carolyn of Abilene, son-in-law, Everett Dodson of Miles. Brothers, Verlin Oates and wife Florene, Vernon Oates, Grady Oates and wife Marietta all of San Angelo. Sisters, Billie Sutton, Ima Jean Cook and husband A.L. of San Angelo. Sister-in-laws, Annie Mae Harris of San Angelo, Alma Barnes of Canada. Eight Grandchildren, Everett Dodson Jr. and wife Cathy, Bill Dodson and wife Carolyn, Mac Dodson and wife Connie, Jerry Dodson and wife Carol, Jennifer McGuire and husband Brian, Paul Horeis and wife Debbie, Teresa Hall and husband Scott and Karen Mitchell. Fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Thelma's grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to Hospice of San Angelo or a favorite charity.
