Thomas Ray (Tommy) Taylor, 75, passed from this life Sunday, October 18, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Southgate Church of Christ with Minister Paul Shero officiating. Internment will be at a later date. He was born April 11, 1934 in San Angelo to Grace Rundle Taylor and Dupont Thomas Taylor. Tommy graduated from Paint Rock High School and attended San Angelo College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957. Also in 1957, he began working for General Telephone Company and retired after 30 1/2 years of service. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Massey. on June 14, 1957. They were blessed with one son, Corey, born in 1969. Tommy enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and was known for his artistic talents -- painting, sculpting and woodcarving. He mentored many young artists, including patients at West Texas Rehabilitation Center. A long-time member of the Church of Christ, Tommy served at Southgate Church of Christ since 1989. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Eldom C. Lisso, his Taylor aunts and uncles as well as his Rundle aunt and uncle, and by six brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris; son Corey and his wife, Angela, three precious grandchildren, Abbey Grace, Will and Luke Taylor, all of San Angelo. Also, his brother, Charles Lisso and wife Janet of Blackwell; nieces Kallie Collins, husband Chris and baby Carter and Kammie Gunn and husband Jeremy. He also is survived by many sisters-in¬law, brothers-in-law as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.Memorials may be made to San Angelo Christian Academy, Hospice of San Angelo or a charity of choice.
