Lon was born December 14, 1945 in Winters, Texas to Linzie Clyde and Veda Maxine Wheat Briley. He grew up in Midland, TX where he graduated from Lee High School. Lon attended West Texas State University where he earned his Master's Degree in Music. Lon married the love of his life, Barbara Joyce Farr, in Eden on September 2, 1966. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the US Army and taught band for a year before he entered into active service, serving honorably in Vietnam.

Lon was a multifaceted individual and had many talents. He was an educator, he worked for over 32 years in the Oil & Gas Industry, and he served not only as a deacon in the church but also as a minister. He was an exceptionally gifted musician. He could play any instrument and sing any melody. Music brought him great joy. Even after Alzheimers had stolen much of his memory, he could still sing along with a familiar song. He also enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes, and loved their small farm in Eden, TX during his retirement. Lon was most proud of his legacy of faith that he passed on, which will be carried on for generations.

Some might describe Lon as a prankster, namely his sons and his co-workers. He certainly could dish it out out, however he wasn't always quite as eager to take it. He cherished his family and friends, especially the grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Lon was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Eric Odell Briley, and a grandson Brandon Clay Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Barbara; his children, Robert Briley and his wife Michelle of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, Donald Briley of Pampa, Texas, Joe and his wife Sherian Briley of San Angelo, Texas, and Brenda Briley and her husband Adam Lamprecht of McKinney, Texas; his brothers, Bryan Briley and his wife Tina, and Ronald Briley; his grandchildren, Megan Ryan and husband, Jacob, Kayla Briley, Erin Briley, Kolson Ashley, Trace Briley, Taryn Briley, Summer Keathly and her husband Kevin; and by his great grandchildren, Nora, Jemma and Thea.

If so moved, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Lon's memory.
