Tonya Suzette McKinzie Tonya Suzette Mc Kinzie, 38 of San Angelo made the journey to Heaven on Friday June 16, 2017 in San Angelo, TX. after a courageous battle. Tonya was born January 2, 1979 in Minot, ND to James William and Terri Lynn (Wilkins) McKinzie. She graduated from Central High School and received her Bachelors of Science from Angelo State University. While attending college, she worked for Shannon Medical Center as a medical records insurance clerk as well as a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center for three years, which was a true source of joy for her. She was a member of Yes Net, Alpha Chi and Psi Chi. She worked as a software engineer for Raytheon Corporation in Garland, TX. Tonya's strong faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was always first in her life. She was very active in her church and youth group. She was a member of Freedom Fellowship Church in San Angelo, where she loved to serve on the food and hospitality team. She was especially fond of preparing and serving the church weekly fellowship meals. She served as the church's first-time visitor contact liaison. Tonya loved talking with visitors and praying for their specific prayer requests. Tonya applied her faith in all aspects of her life. Because of this, she became involved in Celebrate Recovery earning a four-year coin and acting as a program co-leader. Tonya enjoyed many recreational activities growing up including showing horses, ice skating, gymnastics, ballet, and fishing. One of Tonya's greatest recreational joys was showing her two horses, Dennis and Countess. She was an avid Denver Bronco and Minnesota Viking fan. She never missed watching an Olympic competition year. Tonya grew up actively involved in the Girl Scouts' Brownies and Juniors. Tonya was preceded in death by Maternal Grandfather, Edgar Wilkins; Maternal Grandmother, Shirley Wilkins; Paternal Grandmother, Katie G. McKinzie; Paternal Step-Grandmother, Dorothy McKinzie; and Uncle, John Crawford. She is survived by her parents, Jim and Terri McKinzie; her Grandfather, James McKinzie Sr.; Aunts, Carol (John) Maraquin and Judy Crawford; and Cousin, Lewis (Cyndi) Casper and their daughter Kyle. Viewing will be held 10:00am - 8:00pm, Monday, June 19, 2017, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral will be held 2:00pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Freedom Fellowship Church, 342 S. Chadbourne Street, with Pastor Harold Watkins officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00pm - 7:00pm, Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home in Pooler, Ga. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Friday, Jun 23, 2017 at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Pooler, Ga., with Pastor Mitch Lynn officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, 2066 Olive Branch Rd, Ellabell (Black Creek) Ga. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Tonya's "family" at Shannon Pulmonary Rehab, Shannon Clinic Staff, Shannon Medical Center, Doctors, Nurses, and other staff members. Special appreciation to Doctors Flynn and Alred for their compassionate care. The family would also like to express their love and appreciation to Tonya's Celebration Recovery family and her personal friends for their tremendous support, not only for Tonya, but her parents.
