Ursula Kathe Dowidat Reed Ursula Kathe "Katy" Reed, 86 of Bedford Texas, was granted her angel wings on February 21, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Her heavenly flight began in her home as she was surrounded by family and her friends from Professional Caretakers and Lion's Hospice of Bedford. Visitation will be start at 8:00am Friday, February 24, 2012 with family present from 6:30pm-8:00pm at Robert Massie Funeral Home, 402 Rio Concho Drive in San Angelo, TX. Graveside service will be Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, in San Angelo with Rev. Ellen King officiating. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. Katy was born in Tilsit, Germany to Richard and Ida Kate Dowidat on January 17, 1926. She married the love of her life John Worley Reed on June 5, 1947 whom she spent the remainder of her life with until his death in 1994. They resided in the surrounding area of San Angelo, Houston and retired in Bedford. She spent her working life as a Registered Nurse receiving her degree in 1947 from Shannon School of Nursing. Upon retirement, she remained in their home of 35 years until the time of her death. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Worley Reed. She is survived by two children, Bonnie Reed and John D. Reed both of Austin. Surviving grandsons are Sean and Troy Blotz both of Houston, and Kevin Hurst and wife, Ginger of San Angelo. She is also survived by two great-grandsons. A special thank you goes out to those who provided such wonderful care and companionship to her during her illness. Vivian, Jenny, Pat, Kelly, Katy, Mary and all others who touched her during her fight, you are truly gifted individuals and sincerely appreciated. She was very touched by your gentle hearts, kind spirit and sweet personalities. You went well above and beyond for Katy.
