Velma Mullins Barnes, 81, of San Angelo passed away on Monday August 22, 2011 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. A visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday August 23, 2011 and from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Wednesday August 24, 2011 with family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Robert Massie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday August 25, 2011 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Rev. Kevin McSpadden, chaplain of Baptist Memorial. Burial will follow at Belvedere Memorial Park. Arrangements are with Robert Massie Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be: Chester BarnesTaylor Wright Dairyl Barnes Scott Wright Jarrod Barnes Joshua Wright Velma was born on April 29, 1930 in Knott County, Kentucky to Chester and Pettie (Everedge) Mullins. She was the third of five children and lived there until she moved to Penwell, Texas in 1954, where she met the love of her life Paul Barnes. They married on October 11, 1954 in Lovington, New Mexico and to this union were born two sons: Chester and Dairyl. Velma and her family resided most of her life in Odessa where she and Paul owned and managed a package store and extended stay suites. In 1977, they moved to San Angelo where Paul eventually retired and lived in San Angelo for the remainder of their lives. Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents, Chester and Pettie Mullins; and her brothers, Broda, Ova, and Cova Mullins. Survivors include her son, Chester Barnes and his wife Kathy of Odessa; son, Dairyl Barnes of San Angelo; granddaughter, Christi Barnes and Jean Metcalf of Odessa; granddaughter, Laura Wright and her husband Scott of Aubrey, Texas; grandson, Jarrod Barnes and his wife Christy Ann of Midland; great grandsons, Taylor and Joshua Wright, and Jack Barnes of Midland; and a sister, Francis Hall of Detroit, MI. Loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and caring friend.
