Virgil Jack Bleakley, 94, of San Angelo passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017 at his residence. Jack was born October 20, 1922 to Paul James Bleakley and Ouida Pauline Goza Bleakley in Evening Shade, AR. The family moved to Boerne, Texas in 1926. Jack attended Boerne public schools. The family moved to San Antonio in 1933. Jack attended San Antonio area public schools, including two years at St. Mary's University. He attended the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 1941 until December 1942 when he enlisted in the army. Jack was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the 9th Army Air Corps on June 2, 1943 and was shipped overseas in December 1943, serving in the Northern France Campaign, Ardennes Campaign and Campaign of Western Germany. He returned to the United States in September of 1945 and was discharged from active duty in January of 1946 as a Captain. Jack returned to the University of Texas, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and received a Bachelor's degree in January of 1947. Jack remained an Air Force Reserve Officer until 1950. Jack married his wife of 57 years, Marian Kingsbery, at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral in Albuquerque, NM, on September 27, 1950. They raised two children, Mark Kingsbery Bleakley, of Austin, TX, and Anne Russell Bleakley Shahan, of San Angelo. Jack was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marian, his parents, his two sisters, Virginia and Jean, and a daughter Allison Carroll Bleakley. He is survived by son, Mark, daughter, Anne and son-in-law, Reed. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 3 S. Randolph, San Angelo, with the Rev. Matthew Rowe officiating under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home. In lieu of memorials, happy memories and thoughts will be appreciated.
