Vonetta Fountain Vonetta Inez Sinyard Fountain, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior and Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Vonetta was the first daughter born to Zola and Lavander Sinyard on July 19, 1923 in Blaine, OK. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 59 years J W, daughter Wanda Smith, and siblings Omar, Hugo, Pat, Harold, Dolphus, and Mae. She is survived by her daughter Glenda F. Booth and her husband Bob of Lenoir, NC, grandson Zachary and wife Leigha of Marion, NC, granddaughter Laura of Archdale, NC, great-grandchildren Callie and Canaan of Marion, NC, son-in-law WC Smith III of The Woodlands, Texas, sister Wanda Cash and husband Dennis of Muldrow, OK, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Von started college at the age of thirty-eight to become a teacher. She served as an elementary teacher for twenty-four years. Her first assignment was in Carlsbad, Texas, and she later served at Grape Creek, Texas, where she was the basketball coach for the ladies in middle school. Holliman Elementary School was her last and longest teaching assignment. She loved working with children and embodied the spirit of a public servant. She gave them her very best efforts and her heart every day. Upon retirement Holliman Elementary School honored her with a lifetime membership to P.T.A. The faculty and staff brought great joy to her with this gracious honor, and she spoke of it often during her retirement. Even in her last days, she always interacted with children and babies and had a sweet smile for them. Vonetta was a charter member of Baptist Tabernacle Church and served as a Sunday school teacher there for many years. Upon joining Harris Avenue Baptist Church, she became active as a Sunday school teacher for children and adults and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Harris Avenue Baptist childcare program, which later included pre-school and kindergarten. She was honored and humbled to be asked to serve the church in this capacity and was so proud of the school and the ministry it offered. She and J W built the first furniture used in the classrooms (she provided some of the labor and alllll of the meals!), and she was so pleased that they were able to provide this service for the church and the children. After J W became a member of the Masonic Lodge, Vonetta was inducted as an Eastern Star. She maintained her membership in Chapter 10 to her last days. In the spirit of service, J W and Von served a number of years delivering Meals for the Elderly and the Harris Avenue Church provide meals to San Angelo State University Baptist Student Union students. Her legacy is a life lived as a Christian and servant to others. Our lives are enriched for having been a part of her time with us, and the world is a better place for her presence in it. She let her life speak. A service for North Carolina family and friends will be held at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.
