Wilbert Krezer, 81, of San Angelo, passed away Friday, October 28, 2005 in a local hospital. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November, 1, 2005 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Budewig, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Wilbert was born March 9, 1924 in Lexington, Texas to Christian and Martha Diesberg Krezer. He was an auto technician for Mustang Chevrolet for 51 years. Wilbert married Nova Young on September 5, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in San Angelo. He enlisted in the ERC ASTP Inf. On Nov. 2, 1942. After basic training at Camp Maxey, TX., he attended ASTP in Kingsville, TX., from August 1943 to March 1944; assigned to E Co. 409th Inf. 103rd Div. in Camp Howze, TX. for combat infantry training. Served as first scout with the 103rd through Vosges Mts. In France and at 1400 Jan. 20, 1945, carrying out order from the division, the 409th initiated withdrawal on foot from its winter holding line of defense of six days south of Alsce, France to a new defensive line along the southwest slopes of the Molder River. Heavily burdened with equipment, the strenuous disorderly 16 hour march along a congested narrow icy snow-covered road continued under cover of darkness and all day the next day. The miserable routine of slipping on the ice, falling down and getting up only to fall again was briefly interrupted only when possible to walk on the crushed ice behind the tank column. Discharged as staff sergeant in March 1946, Wilbert received the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, American Campaign Medal, EAME with three Bronze stars, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp and Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII. Wilbert is preceded in death by; his parents, a brother, Alvin and two sisters, Elsie Huse and Lydia Baumann Survivors are: Wife:Nova Krezer of San Angelo Daughter:Judy Orlando and husband, Peter J. of Plano Sister: Edna Huse and husband, Edwin of Lamesa, TX.
