WILLIAM H. " BILL" EARLS

William H. "Bill" Earls, 77, of San Angelo, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in a local hospital. Vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Celebrant of the funeral Mass will be Rev. John Patrick Earls OSB with the Very Rev. Maurice Voity, STL and Rev. Alberic Culhane, OSB, concelebrating. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Bill was born in San Angelo, Texas on August 6, 1930 to Harry J. and Frances Holcombe Earls in St. John's Hospital. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1947, attended San Angelo College and graduated from the University of Texas Business School in 1951. Bill served in the Korean War, returning to the city to join his father, his grandfather, W. D. Holcombe, and William E. "Ed" Blanton in the management of Holcombe-Blanton Printing. In 1960, he was married to Nancy Lee Norton of Chickasha, Oklahoma. In 1983, he retired, from active business, through the sale of the company to Weldon G. Boggus. Bill was active in the San Angelo Civic Theater, performing in numerous plays and serving on the Theater's board of directors, finally serving two terms as President of SACT. He was a member of the advisory board of St. John's Hospital for twenty-five years before its purchase by Shannon Health Center. Bill was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral. After his retirement he participated in such local organizations as Code Blue and the Computer Club of San Angelo. He is survived by his brother Father John Patrick Earls OSB, a Benedictine monk and retired Professor of English at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota; Mrs. Norma Culhane and faithful friends Dr. John D. Phillips, Mr. Jamie Poteet, Nick James and J. Willis Johnson. Special thanks are given to the staff At Regency House who served Bill with devotion and care during his last years of illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Meals for the Elderly at 310 E. Houston Harte San Angelo, Texas 76903 or a favorite charity.
