Pastor Emeritus William J. McClendon, I, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, February 20, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Public viewing will be from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM and Wake from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, March 4, 2022, at Robert Massie Funeral Home. The Home Going Celebration will be Saturday March 5, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church San Angelo, 37 E. Beauregard Ave., San Angelo Texas 76903. Burial will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Garden under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Pastor McClendon, I was born July 31, 1935 in East Saint Louis, Illinois. He was a 1951 graduate of East Saint Louis Senior High School. Pastor McClendon honorably served in the US Air Force from March 1954 until May 1974. His tours of duty include Lackland AFB TX, Kessler AFB MS, Japan, Elmendorf AFB AK, Medina AFB TX, Goodfellow AFB TX, Brindisi Italy. Pastor McClendon worked for GTE from 1975 until 1992, was a bus driver for the San Angelo ISD, and was a pastor for over 47 years, serving faithfully at Freewill First/Gethsemane "The Garden" Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor McClendon was Moderator of the West Texas Baptist Association. He LOVED THE LORD and he also liked playing pool, cards, and listening to good music. He LOVED his family very much.
Survivors include two daughters, Rev. Stephanie McClendon Radloff and husband Stephen of Melbourne Florida, and Diana Waldon-Brown and husband James of San Angelo; a son, Pastor William McClendon, II and wife Tracy of San Angelo; six grandchildren, Te'Jawn Crowder, Sr. of Charlotte, North Carolina and wife Tomika of San Angelo, Diamond McClendon of San Angelo, De Shawn L. Walden and wife Jenefer of Japan, Brandysa McClendon of San Antonio, TreNellsa Stallings and husband Chasten of Houston, William McClendon, III of San Angelo, two great grandchildren, Te'Jawn Crowder, Jr. and TayVeon Crowder both of San Angelo; a sister, Ossie Lee of East Saint Louis, Illinois; sister-In-law, Verna McClendon of East Saint Louis, Illinois; sister-In-law, Willie Lois Bell of San Antonio; goddaughter, Angelia Farmer-Simmons and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Octer McClendon and Mary Bennett; a daughter, Delthea Ann McClendon; a brother, Thessalonia H. McClendon; and a sister, Valadean Mask. William was also preceded in death by his wives, Nellie Rae (Boldridge) McClendon in March of 1997 and Theaha (Pruitt) McClendon in June of 2018.
