Willie Eldner Smith Alexander passed away at her home October 13, 2018 at the age of 90. Willie was born February 3, 1928 in Pottsville, TX to Bill and Allie Smith. She married Leslie Harold Alexander August 19, 1950. They had two children Alton Harold Alexander and Janett Carol Alexander. They moved from Odessa, TX to San Angelo in 1963 and bought a place in Veribest, TX where they bred and raised raced thoroughbred horses. They loved to country and western dance with all their friends and family to the music of the band that their son was drummer in, The Drifters. She loved to gamble and go travel the country with her sister and brother-in-law, Fay and Billy Williams. In 1968, they moved into San Angelo, TX, to Spaulding Street where Willie still lived until her death. For the first time in her life she went to work where she actually drew a paycheck, first she worked in Dun-Bar Motel in the laundromat and then in 1970 she went to work at Levi Strauss, where she worked for 24 years. She said she loved every day of her job, and never had a hard job there. She was very active in the CIT Program, doing volunteer work for the community. She later joined the ELKS and did a lot of community work with them. She started going to church at Central Faith Baptist Church where Brother Charles Beal preached, and later moved to Bethel Baptist Church where Brother Beal moved to preach. She and her entire family had over 40-plus years in relationship with Brother Beal and his family. Sadly Brother Beal preceded her in death. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Allie Smith; her husband, Leslie Harold Alexander; and her son, Alton Harold Alexander; five sisters: Opal Price, Louise Rawls, Alfleta Alexander, Jewel Schafer and Fay Williams; two brothers: Ervin Smith and Cleve Smith; and seven nephews: Billy, Cleve, Wayne, Jimmy, Dewayne, Larry, Mike and Tommy Lee; one niece: Kathy; and many close friends. She is survived by a daughter, Jannett Carol Alexander; and an adopted daughter, Andrea Knight (who could fix anything, according to Willie); and her oldest granddaughter, Leslie Renee Alexander (who was named after her Big Pawpaw). Leslie nicknamed Willie "Big G", and that's what close friends and relatives always knew her by. She is also survived by her loving cat, Teeter (who came to her home one Christmas and adopted her); many other close and dear family and friends; and four other granddaughters who are estranged. Willie and her family were very strong and truly enjoyed getting together for any occasion, to laugh and act crazy and tell jokes about one another. They were always there to help each other out and anyone else that needed their help. In the last years of her life, she had some very great and watchful neighbors that kept a very close eye out for Miss Willie. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice for their services and a special thank you to the ones that saw her: Jessica (RN), Jackie (Social Worker), Veronica (Hospice Aide) and Ron, (Spiritual Care). And, a special thank you to Suzanne and Alan for all the beautiful flowers, candy and special visits. Family visitation will be at Robert Massie Funeral Home on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral service will be at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in the Eden Cemetery at 3:00pm. Pallbearers will be Randy Farr, Jay Williams and John Smith. "She is dearly loved and will truly be missed every day" "Fly High and Free Big G" Online condolences may be left at www.robertmassie.com
